Our Practice
Dr. Ella Shuster
Dr. Ella Shuster grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, and she now practices dentistry at Academy Dental Care in her two offices in Westfield and Chatham, New Jersey. Dr. Shuster is comfortable with all aspects of general dentistry — root canals, fillings, crowns, bridges and implants — and she is especially interested in cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign® orthodontics, restorative dentistry, and dental sleep medicine.
Dr. Shuster always knew she wanted to be a dentist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Russian from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania in only three years, graduating cum laude.
Dr. Shuster earned her doctorate of dental surgery from New York University College of Dentistry and then completed a General Practice Residency at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey.
Dr. Shuster continues her education every year by investing hundreds of hours into learning new techniques and integrating the latest products into her state of the art dental practice.
Dr. Shuster has been awarded her Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and is pursuing her accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Dr. Shuster has also been awarded her Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

Dr. Heather Kobos
Dr. Kobos was born and raised in Westfield, NJ. She and her husband lived in Westfield for 7 years before recently moving to Millburn with their two daughters, Annabelle and Juliet.
Dr. Kobos graduated Magna Cum laude from Tufts University and then went on to graduate from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She continued her education at Overlook Hospital's General Practice Residency in Summit, NJ where she received training in oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, and pediatric dentistry. She is gentle, warm, and family-focused.
In her free time, Dr. Kobos enjoys trying new foods, going on adventures with her family, and feeding her addiction to romance novels.
About Dr. Johnathan Mendia
A New Jersey native, Dr. Mendia attended Rutgers University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Nutrition. He then earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Mendia completed a post-doctoral residency in Dental Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Dr. Mendia’s anesthesia training involved hospital rotations through various specialties. During each rotation, he provided general anesthesia in the areas of dentistry, general surgery, otolaryngology (ENT) surgery and obstetrics. In addition, he received specialized training for office-based anesthesia
Today, Dr. Mendia has found his niche in ambulatory anesthesia with pediatric and special needs patients. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine and provides lectures and continuing education courses on sedation and medical emergencies in the dental office.
Dr. Mendia is a Diplomate of the National Board of Dental Anesthesiology and a Fellow of the American Society of Dental Anesthesiology.
He is also a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, New Jersey Dental Association, and American Dental Association. He holds certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Dr. Mendia resides in northern New Jersey with his wife and children. His personal interests include sporting events, physical fitness, and travel.
